An audit of surgical retrograde root canal re-treatment outcome: Part Two.

چکیده
Method Only single-rooted teeth from the anterior maxillary and mandibular sextants were included within this audit. All treatment cases included within these audit cycles were assessed, treatment-planned and treated in accordance within the guidelines set by the strict surgical protocol determined in Part One of this series. Exclusion factors from the audit were: posterior teeth, those whose treatment was abandoned due to intra-operative factors (e.g. location of root fracture) or when necessity involved deviation from the surgical protocol. It was determined that the first cycle of audit would incorporate 20 consecutive surgical retrograde root canal re-treated teeth (on some occasions, more than one tooth was treated per patient). Teeth treated by SRRCR were reviewed one year post-operatively, in accordance with recommended guidelines (4). The clinical review of cases was undertaken as follows. To determine the patients’ perception of the surgical procedure and the outcome of treatment, they were asked the following questions: 1. If they had suffered pain or swelling from the treated tooth or adjacent area? 2. If so, what were the specifics of their symptoms? 3. Were they happy with the outcome of the surgical retrograde root canal re-treatment? 4. In retrospect, would they still have had the procedure performed? To determine the outcome of the surgical procedure, the patients were subsequently examined clinically and assessed for the following: 5. Presence of sinus or vertical narrow Dental

An evidence-based surgical protocol for the provision of surgical retrograde root canal treatment: part 1.
Introduction It is well established that intra-root canal bacterial infection is the primary causative factor in apical periodontitis(1,2,3). A surgical retrograde root canal re-treatment (SRRCR) approach to root canals with persistent apical periodontitis is an accepted treatment method when conventional nonsurgical orthograde root canal treatment (NSORCT) has failed or when it is impractical ...

متن کاملRetrograde instrumentation and obturation with new devices.
Two surgical cases are presented in which retrograde instrumentation of the root canal was accomplished with sonic or ultrasonic instruments. The canals were obturated from a retrograde direction with thermoplasticized gutta-percha and root canal sealer. Success of these treatment approaches is attributed to thorough debridement and satisfactory obturation with equipment only recently available...

In teeth with periapical lesions and defective root canal seals non-surgical retreatment is usually preferred. Sometimes, however, such treatment may not be feasible and periapical surgery must be performed. The present study investigated a technique of retrograde root canal treatment as an alternative to the more conventional types of surgical procedure. The material consisted of 35 teeth whos...
متن کاملExtraoral Retrograde Root Canal Filling of an Orthodontic-induced External Root Resorption Using CEM Cement
Inflammatory external root resorption (IERR) after orthodontic treatments is an unusual complication. This case report describes a non-vital maxillary premolar with symptomatic extensive IERR (with a crown/root ratio of 1:1) after receiving orthodontic treatment. The first appointment included drainage, chemo-mechanical preparation of the canal and intra-canal medication with calcium hydroxide ...
